1. Decide what the site must do

Most small local businesses need a site that does three things: says what you do, shows where you work, and makes it easy to call or ask for a quote. Write those down before you talk to anyone. It keeps the job small and the price fair.

2. Gather what you already have

  • Your business name, phone number and email
  • The cities you serve (for example Modesto, Ceres, Turlock, Riverbank, Oakdale, Manteca)
  • Your services or products, with prices or 'starts at' prices if you share them
  • A few real photos of your work, if you have them
  • Your logo, if you have one (you can launch without one)

3. Pick a web address

A short .com with your business name is easiest to remember. Make sure the domain is registered in your name, so you keep it if you change builders. A domain usually costs about $12 to $20 a year.

4. Choose who builds it

You have three common choices:

  • Do it yourself with a website builder. Cheapest in money, but it takes your time, and there is usually a monthly fee.
  • Hire a local designer. Best if you want in-person meetings or custom features. Local starter sites are often listed from about $500 to $750, custom sites more.
  • Use a done-for-you online service, like Nora at TaskStaffed. Lower one-time price, all online, no meetings.

5. Set up your Google Business Profile too

Many local customers find you on Google Maps before they ever see your website. Create or claim your free Google Business Profile, add your service area and hours, and link it to your new site.

6. Check it on your phone before it goes live

Open every page on your phone. Tap the phone number, send yourself a test message through the form, and read the prices. Fix anything wrong before you share the link.

Common questions

How long does it take to get a small business website?

With a done-for-you service it can be days. Nora's first preview usually comes the same day the build starts, and if there is no first preview within 5 business days of paying, you get a full refund automatically.

Do I need a logo first?

No. You can launch with your business name in a clean font and add a logo later.

Can a website builder in Modesto meet me in person?

Many local designers do. Nora works online only, so pick a local designer if meeting in person matters to you.

Do I need a website if I have a Google Business Profile?

Not always, but a website gives you a place to list every service, your prices and your service area, and you control it.
