After-hours calls for contractors and home-service pros
Emergencies don't keep business hours, but you can't answer the phone at 10 PM forever. A simple after-hours system protects both your leads and your evenings.

Decide what counts as an emergency
Write down which calls justify an after-hours visit (no heat in winter, active leak, no power) and which can wait until morning (quotes, maintenance, estimates). Put the emergency rate in writing too.
Use a clear after-hours greeting
Greeting
"You've reached Valley Comfort Heating & Air. We're closed for the day. If this is an emergency like no heat or a gas smell, call [emergency line / 911 for gas]. Otherwise, leave your name, number and what's going on, and we'll call you by 9 AM."
Capture every lead
- Name and callback number.
- Address or neighborhood.
- What's wrong and how urgent it is.
- Best time to reach them.
Follow up first thing
Block the first 30 minutes of the morning for callbacks to last night's callers. A quick, reliable callback often wins the job over a competitor who never called back.
Where TaskStaffed fits
With TaskStaffed's Ava, you add missed callers' name, number and request to your desk and she lines them up in your daily brief, so morning callbacks take minutes. Ava doesn't dispatch technicians or handle emergencies — callers with an emergency should still reach you or 911. Text replies to missed callers are coming soon, once carrier registration completes.

Common questions
Should I answer every after-hours call myself?
Only the true emergencies you've defined. Everything else can be captured and returned first thing in the morning.
Coming soon: texting your customers. Until then, leads, reminders, drafts, and your 5 PM update show up on your desk and by email.
