Text message promo ideas for salons and barbershops

Your regulars already like you. A well-timed, genuinely useful message is the easiest way to fill a slow Tuesday.

First: get permission

Promotional texts need clear, written opt-in from each client — a checkbox on your booking form or a sign-up at the front desk that says they'll get marketing texts. Every promo should say who it's from and how to opt out ("Reply STOP to opt out"). Keep it to a few messages a month, during daytime hours.

Ideas that work

  • Slow-day openings: "Two chairs open this Tuesday afternoon."
  • Rebooking nudges: a reminder 5–6 weeks after a cut or color.
  • Seasonal services: back-to-school cuts, prom and wedding season, holiday glam.
  • New stylist or barber introductions with an opening-week slot list.
  • Add-on spotlight: deep conditioning, beard trim, brow shaping.
  • Birthday month perk for opted-in clients.
  • Referral thank-you for clients who send a friend.

Sample texts

Slow day

Keep it classy

  • One clear offer per message.
  • Use the client's first name when you can.
  • Skip ALL CAPS and too many emojis.
  • Measure: count bookings from each promo and keep what works.

Common questions

How often can a salon send promo texts?

There's no single legal number, but most clients are happy with two to four a month. More than weekly tends to drive opt-outs.

Do I need consent to text clients a promo?

Yes. Marketing texts require prior express written consent under US rules. Collect it clearly and keep a record.

Coming soon: texting your customers. Until then, leads, reminders, drafts, and your 5 PM update show up on your desk and by email.
